Boooring

Boooring

Portables Product Manager Bruce Gee recalls:

What's interesting, for context, is if you look back at Silicon Valley in that decade between 1980 and 1990. If you wanted to do something cool and groundbreaking and consumer-facing, Apple was practically the only game in town. There was Apple or boooooring companies like Compaq and HP. No way you’re going there. I know for me, and probably for most Apple employees during that phase, if you went to a dinner party, you said you worked at Apple. That's all anyone wanted to talk about. ’Tell me what it’s like in there?’, 'What are you working on?’.

No one was going to a dinner party and saying, ‘I work for IBM.’

Apple attracted A+ people in engineering, marketing, communications, product design, interface design, you name it. The quality and the standard of these people was amazing. What they could do, what they could offer. And the way to judge if they were amazing is to look at their careers after Apple. World-changing products that still impact our world today. Amazing people. And we were all very young.
